ACES // Artists of Color Expo & Symposium 2021
Attending this event?
ACES is a BIPOC-centered and led art conference. Our vision is to establish a space for artists of color to celebrate and center ourselves. We are coming together with intentionality to value our work and see one another as resources, while focusing on the challenges and solutions we face as artists of color in the Pacific Northwest.

I will present the intersectionality of visual art and performance as an extension of a current site-specific art installation, “A Non Model Minority”. The 16-page newspaper is a visual autobiography outlining my life and career as a Vietnamese American artist. This interactive artwork is on display at Little Saigon Creative through June 2021 as part of their inaugural exhibit, “Owning It”. Folks are welcome to take a copy of the newspaper though due to the restrictions stemming from the pandemic, patrons are severely limited to visit the gallery.

I will read excerpts from the tabloid-size newspaper along with showcasing additional images associated with each story. Following my readings, I will respond to the audience's questions and engage in a dialogue. And concluding the presentation, I will offer parting words of advice for making art during the pandemic.
